More funding for good causes

Speaking at a meeting at Conservative Party Conference, People’s Postcode Lottery Managing Director, Clara Govier, announced that the organisation will double the current annual funding available to local charities, from £9 million to more than £20 million.

The increase will come following a change in the law relating to charity lottery annual sales.

Ms Davies announced the change in charity lottery law in Parliament in July.

Support for the change in the law also came from Ross Thomson, Conservative MP for Aberdeen South, Claire Horton, Chief Executive of Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, Claire Horton and Director General of the National Trust, Hilary McGrady. 

People’s Postcode Lottery has urged that the change in the law be brought in as soon as possible, so that local charities can start benefitting from the additional funding.

Former Charities Minister, Mims Davies MP, said: “I am proud that many more local charities across the country will benefit from the change in the charity lottery limits that I announced earlier this year. Local charities are the lifeblood of our communities and I was keen to bring in this change to help them secure more support from charity lotteries – which are a great charity fundraising success story.”

People’s Postcode Lottery Managing Director, Clara Govier, said: “We are delighted that the planned change in the charity lottery annual sales limit will allow many more local charities to secure funding, as well as reducing bureaucracy and administration costs. We urge DCMS Ministers, Nicky Morgan MP and Helen Whately MP to bring in the change by the turn of the year, so that these benefits can begin as soon as possible.”

Battersea Dogs and Cats Home Chief Executive, Claire Horton, added: “Support from players of People’s Postcode Lottery is key in enabling our work to care for thousands of vulnerable lost and abandoned dogs and cats every year. This funding is making a real difference. The Government has acknowledged the significant impact that the charity lottery sector makes in fundraising for good causes. That’s why we are supporting calls for the Government to go ahead and bring the changes into force as soon as possible.”
